Montreal Heart Institute Specialized Care

MHI's daily efforts to preserve excellent patient care.

The Montreal Heart Institute is an ultra-specialized heart centre in all areas of cardiology. Not only do our patients benefit from the latest scientific breakthroughs, they also receive highly personalized care. From a routine exam to a delicate procedure, each case is treated with the utmost importance.

At the MHI, the patient is our top priority. That's why our staff efforts are geared toward reducing waiting times, offering optimal patient monitoring before and after hospitalizations, and making it easier for patients from the entire Quebec health network to have access to state-of-the-art technology.

Patient Care Services

The large influx of cases treated at the Institute - over 50,000 patients per year - is what enables us to research and develop exciting new technologies. As a result, specialization has become one of our greatest strengths. Patients treated in our specialized clinics receive optimal monitoring in such areas as:

  • Hemodynamics
  • Angioplasty
  • Electrophysiology program
  • Medical imaging
  • Cardiac ultrasound
  • Heart failure clinic
  • Emergency care
  • Surgical care
  • Nursing care
  • Congenital cardiopathy clinics
  • Ambulatory centre
  • Transplant clinic
  • Systematic follow-up team
  • Coronary unit
  • Medicine unit
  • Short-stay unit
  • Surgery Unit
  • Intensive care

Upcoming Projects

The MHI plans to acquire new hemodynamics and electrophysiology rooms, as well as four more surgical rooms, including one for robotics-assisted operations. These new rooms will enable us to treat more patients more quickly and more effectively and to reduce potentially detrimental waiting times.

Also in the works: a new ambulatory centre aimed at consolidating various patient services under one roof, i.e.: external clinics, specialized care not requiring hospitalizations (arrhythmia clinic, pain clinic, congenital cardiopathy clinic, etc.), certain diagnostic tests and minor mini-surgeries. This restructuring will facilitate the treatment of patients and optimize information sharing.

The bottom line: more patients treated, more lives saved!
