Montreal, June 17, 2010 – The Montreal Heart Institute Foundation announced today a grant of $19,743,714 to the MHI for the year 2010-11. Since its inception in 1977, the Foundation allocated more than $143 million to patient care, research, training, prevention and the assessment of new technologies at the Institute.

“It is thanks to thousands of individual donors and hundreds of small, medium and international corporations that the Foundation can today contribute to the development of highly specialized cardiac treatments and the well-being of MHI patients,” says Foundation President Louis A Tanguay.

As an international leader in the field of cardiology, the MHI treats more than 50,000 patients annually, most of whom are considered complex cases.  “This outstanding contribution will enable the Institute to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment that will facilitate innovative progress in research and quality care. Prevention initiatives and special projects will also be made possible.  The Foundation’s support is proof of the Quebec Community’s belief in the MHI’s excellence,” says MHI Executive Director Robert Busilacchi.
