About Dr. Lucien Campeau
Pioneer of the Montreal Heart Institute, a cardiologist, senior researcher and outstanding teacher, Dr. Lucien Campeau introduced a revolutionary procedure, the coronary radial artery, which has reduced patient discomfort and the risk of thrombosis and infection during angiography. This diagnostic test can determine the status of the arteries and blood flow. This novel procedure in cardiology was so important that it was adopted in a very short time all over the world.
Dr. Lucien Campeau has chaired the Association of Cardiologists of Quebec, the Society of Cardiology of Montreal, and the Canadian Society of Cardiology. He also acted as governor for Quebec of the American College of Cardiology.
He was the recipient of numerous awards including the Prix Jean Lenègre, honouring members of the Institute who contributed to research on the development of coronary artery bypass grafting, the Prix Carsley, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Quebec's Heart Award, in addition to the research achievement award of the Canadian Society of Cardiology.
