Events

From the grandest of bals to the friendly golf tournament, the Foundation’s fundraising events vary but share a common goal – the commitment of hundreds of individuals committed to fundraise on behalf of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation and to build awareness about heart disease.  Some events are organized by the Foundation, others by third parties.

Grand Bal des Vins-Coeurs / September 6, 2012 

The Grand Bal de Vins-Cœurs, the Foundation’s flagship fundraising event, raised $2,400,000 on September 6, 2012 at the Salle des pas perdus of the Gare Windsor.

During this grand evening, some 850 guests gathered to honour Mr. L. Jacques Ménard, O.C., O.Q., Chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns and President of BMO Financial Group, Quebec.

Under our honorary presidents Mr. René Angélil, Productions Feeling; Mr. André Desmarais, Power Corporation of Canada; Mrs. France Chrétien Desmarais, Corporate Director; as well as Mr. Kent Nagano and Mrs. Mari Kodama, Montreal Symphonic Orchestra, the success of the Grand Bal des Vins-Cœurs of the Foundation was also made possible by the dedication of our co-presidents: Mr. Aldo Bensadoun, The ALDO Group; Mr. Pierre Boivin, CLARIDGE; Mr. Jean-Guy Desjardins, Fiera Capital; Mr. Mathieu L’Allier, BMO Financial Group; Mrs. Monique F. $2 Straight to the Heart / February 7 to 27, 2013 

From February 7 to 27, 2013, make a $2 donation at an IGA or make a $2 or more by AccesD. In 2013, you have showned your great genesority. Thanks to you, $425,000 have been raised with the $2 Straight to the Heart campaign. For the past 27 years more than $7 million have been raised for the Foundation. The Foundation thanks IGA merchants, the Health guide sponsors, IGA suppliers and their clients who supports the MHIF.

IGA merchants and the Foundation have been proud partners in the fight against heart disease for the past 27 years. 

It all strated when Pierre Croteau, Head of Quebec's IGA in 1986, made heart disease his cause. Today, Marc Poulin, President of IGA Banner, continues to encourage merchants to support $2 Straight to the Heart because he realizes that customers, employees and partners, as well as family members and friends, are all affected, one way or the other, by heart disease, the leading cause of death in Canada.

Throught the years your support have generated more than $7 million to save lives, with a campaign that continues at IGA. 

Bal du Coeur / April 9, 2011 

The 2011 Bal du Coeur will be held on Saturday, April 9 at Château Vaudreuil  “Pavillon sur le lac” with Andy Chelminski as Honorary President. Guest will enjoy a great evening over a cocktail and gastronomic dinner.  
 

For the past 10 years, Tony Meti, the man behind the Bal du Coeur, has enjoyed inviting friends and colleagues to this annual fundraising event to celebrate heart month.  Thanks to Mr. Meti and his organizing committee, the Bal du Coeur has raised more than $5 million to help the MHI Foundation provide post-doctoral awards to the Institute’s most promising young specialists, as well as scholarships to recruit and retain specialized nurses.
 

The Bal is also an opportunity to award the Bal du Coeur Fellowships. This year recipients are:

• Dr. Anique Ducharme ($10,000)
  For a clinical overspecialization in cardiac transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio
• Dr. Katia Dyrda Langelaan ($50,000)
  For a two-year fellowship in electrophysiology at the Leiden University Medical Centre in The Netherlands
• Dr. Nicolo Piazza ($50,000)
  For a one-year fellowship in Percutaneous aortic valves implanation at the Leipzig Medical Centre in Germany

Soirée des Cœurs Universels / October 19, 2012

The 11th Soirée des Coeurs Universels was held on October 19, 2012 at Auberge Universel of Montreal and allow to raised $148,660. Under the presidency of  Mr. Carmine Mercadante, some 350 guests attended to this Soirée des Cœurs Universels. This event is the occasion to honour a member of the Montreal Heart Institute medical team for his or her dedication to patients, to the Institute and to health care in Quebec.  Thanks to the 2011 dinner-dance, the Committee raised $134,500 and honoured Mrs. Marie-Hélène Carbonneau.
