| | | New expedition for Dr. Michel White: Mount Gyajikang
Wednesday, September 13, 2006
On October 13, 2006, six climbers and three cameramen will fly off to Nepal. Their goal: to be the first North American team to reach the 7,034-metre peak of Mount Gyajikang!
 |
The MHI's Dr. Michel White will be taking part in the expedition, as will several other climbers, including Dave Smith, President of the Canadian Transplant Association and himself a kidney transplant recipient. Born in Edmonton, Mr. Smith previously broke an altitude record by being the first transplant patient to make the 6,542-metre climb to the top of Mount Sajama in Bolivia. |
Sylvain Bédard, who participated in the Bolivian expedition, is sponsoring this latest climb and overseeing media relations during the four-week adventure.
The overriding goal of the trek is to promote organ donation and physical activity. In addition, a comprehensive research project will be conducted in collaboration with Drs. Martin Sirois, Jean-Claude Tardif, Christine Des Rosiers and Robert Beanlands (Ottawa), both during and after the expedition.
