MHI opens new cardiovascular resonance room
May 31, 2004 marked the opening of the Montreal
Heart Institute's new radiology room and magnetic resonance
imaging unit. The new MRI is the only one of its kind in Quebec
to specifically target cardiovascular imaging.
An investment of $3.3 million was required to make
this acquisition. The Quebec government contributed $2 million
and the MHI Foundation generously provided the remaining $1.3
million. This latest technological development
consolidates the MHI's position as Quebec's foremost cardiac
imaging reference centre.
This versatile high-performance unit will result in
less invasive tests for patients (e.g.: no catheterizations),
advanced testing options (myocardial perfusion and stress tests)
and 3D aortic reconstructions for better surgical planning. All
patients with cardiac and cardiovascular problems can directly
benefit from these advantages.

The new MRI unit was set up in a
room dedicated to MHI radiologist Dr.
Éléonore Paquet.
An internationally renowned pioneer
and expert in cardiovascular imaging via MRI testing,
Dr. Paquet was honoured in recognition of
her outstanding contribution to the field.
